About

Dr. Joshua Kim is the Assistant Provost for Online Learning Strategy at Dartmouth and a Senior Fellow at Georgetown University's Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship. His work sits at the intersection of learning science, institutional strategy, and the economics and demographics of higher education.

Josh holds a PhD in sociology and demography from Brown University. He began his career on the faculty at West Virginia University, helped launch Britannica.com's education division in San Francisco, and was one of the original founders of Quinnipiac University Online.

With Edward Maloney, he is the co-author of three books from Johns Hopkins University Press, including Recentering Learning (2024). He is best known for the Learning Innovation column at Inside Higher Ed, where he regularly reviews thesis-driven nonfiction and connects it to the questions facing universities today.

Josh and his wife Julie, a pediatric oncologist at Dartmouth, live in Hanover, New Hampshire. They have two adult daughters.
